Pretty Healthy Chocolate Brownies (Gluten Free, Low Sodium)

Craving something chocolatey but don't want to overindulge? These DASH-friendly, heart-healthy brownies make a sweet finish or small snack that satisfies and nourishes! Cassava flour makes this a gluten-free brownie, but feel free to use your preferred flour.


Ingredients:

1 Cup almond butter (creamy)

2 Tablespoons flax seeds (ground)

6 Tablespoons water

1/3 cup sugar (Organic Cane, or your preference)

1/3 cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)

1/4 cup Cassava flour (or flour of your preference)

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 Tablespoon unsalted butter/substitute (for greasing pan)


Preparation Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9x13" baking pan with parchment and butter/substitute.


In small bowl, combine flax seeds and water, set aside.


In mixing bowl mix almond butter and sugar until combined. Add vanilla extract, maple syrup, flax/water mixture until thoroughly combined. Add flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Mix until combined and no lumps remain. The mix will be sticky and paste-like.


Pour the batter into the parchment-lined baking pan. Spread the batter evenly in the pan.

Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick/fork comes out clean. Let cool for 15 - 20 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
